The World Series has turned into a lopsided contest for the Milwaukee Brewers, who entered Game 3 with a two-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays.
On the evening of October 27 in St. Petersburg, the Brewers extended that lead to 3-0 after dismantling the Rays 10-1.
Milwaukee recorded 16 hits in the victory, while Tampa Bay managed only three.
The Rays did score a run in the ninth inning on two hits, but the game was largely decided by the end of the fifth.
Jackson Chourio, the 22-year-old outfielder, led the offensive effort with four hits, two runs, and one RBI.
He began the game with a line drive single, followed by singles in his next two at-bats.
His fourth at-bat resulted in a double during a five-run inning that broke the game open.
That double was recorded at 99 mph, the weakest of his four hits according to the source data.
Chourio became the youngest player to record a four-hit game in the World Series since Joe Garagiola in 1946.
His performance brought his World Series batting average to .571 with eight hits in 14 at-bats.
He also stole a base in Game 3, bringing his total to three stolen bases in the postseason.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy praised Chourio's development and work ethic after the game. "Nobody's surprised that Jack Jack's doing this. Nobody's surprised. He's turning into, 20, 21, 22, he's turning into a fine player. He's understanding what it takes, the discipline that it takes. He's coming into his own. Nobody's shocked. He's just really, really good," Murphy said. "He's also played incredible defense, and he stole a base tonight. He's a total player. Like we talked about, you ask about Kobe Bryant and him. Kobe strived to get better and better and better every year because he was so disciplined. He was such a worker. He had such an attitude. Jackson's on that same track." Chourio offered a more personal take on his performance. "Yeah, I think that you could say this is one of my better games," Chourio said. "Really, I was just taking every at-bat like it could be my last and trying to find any way I could to get on base. Because I know, as long as I get on base, there's guys behind me who could score." The Brewers are now 7-0 in the National League Championship Series and the World Series combined. A win in Game 4 would make them 8-0, a record first in Major League Baseball history. The only team previously to sweep both the NLCS and the World Series was the 1976 Cincinnati Reds, though that team played in a five-game NLCS. The Rays have failed to score in their last two games, having allowed four runs in the first inning of Game 2 before losing 5-4. Game 4 is scheduled to continue the series at Tropicana Field, where the Rays must win the next two games to force a Game 7.
