The Kansas City Chiefs suffered their first defeat of the 2026 season on Sunday, falling to the Seattle Seahawks. The loss marked a turning point for an offense that struggled significantly in the passing game. Patrick Mahomes threw for 165 yards and scored a season low of six fantasy points in the contest. The Chiefs now prepare for a rematch against the Denver Broncos this week.
Sam Darnold led Seattle to the victory with 257 passing yards on 20 of 28 attempts. He completed 13 of his first 17 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown in the first half. However, an interception in the final seconds of the half gave Kansas City a field goal opportunity that was not converted. This interception was Darnold's eighth over his last five games. Despite the mistake, the quarterback avoided sacks for the first time in three weeks, having taken five in each of the previous two contests.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba emerged as the primary target for Seattle, leading the league with 867 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. He gained 129 yards in the first half, a personal career high and the most by a Seahawks player in a single half since Tyler Lockett in 2020. Smith-Njigba is the first player in the Super Bowl era to reach 850 yards and eight scores in a team's first seven games. The receiver described the team's resilience as special, noting that the group fought together with their backs against the wall.
The Seattle defense also contained Kenneth Walker III, who had led the league with 665 rushing yards entering the game. Walker became the first Super Bowl MVP to play against his former team the following season. The Seahawks used two deep safeties to limit his impact, allowing him only 36 yards on 14 carries. He did not gain 10 yards on any single run during the contest.
In Detroit, the Lions held the Green Bay Packers to 17 points in a key NFC North matchup. The defense forced a turnover through Brian Branch and limited Green Bay to five completions on 15 third down attempts. This performance follows a strong showing against Arizona during Detroit's bye week. Jameson Williams caught two touchdowns, becoming the third player this season with multiple receiving scores in consecutive games. Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jaxon Smith-Njigba are the others who have achieved this feat.
The Packers now sit at the bottom of the NFC North with a 1-2 record in division play. Their only win came against a Chicago Bears team that was without starter Caleb Williams. Josh Jacobs made his season debut for Green Bay, finishing with 36 rushing yards on 11 carries and 55 receiving yards. He caught five passes for a touchdown but dropped a go-ahead score with 3:25 remaining. Jacobs played 54 percent of the snaps in the game.
Elsewhere on Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the New Orleans Saints in the league's first game played in France. Jaylen Warren rushed for 101 yards on 18 carries for Pittsburgh. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won in the return of Baker Mayfield, while the Minnesota Vikings maintained their undefeated record. The Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Baltimore Ravens, and the Denver Broncos secured a win in Arizona. The Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers meet again on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
The Seattle Seahawks will face the Chicago Bears on November 2 at 8:15 p.m. ET. The Kansas City Chiefs travel to Denver on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET. The Green Bay Packers host the Carolina Panthers on Thursday at 8:15 p.m. ET. The Los Angeles Rams, who won without Davante Adams, play the San Diego Chargers on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET. Adams is expected to miss five to nine weeks due to a hamstring injury sustained in Week 6.
