Jay-Z has officially confirmed his place as the headliner for the Super Bowl LXI halftime show.
The announcement came via a social media video featuring the track "Public Service Announcement" while the artist sat on a stage. The clip served as the formal reveal for the performance scheduled for February 14, 2027.
The event will take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The venue is the shared home of the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers. This performance brings the New York native’s East Coast hip-hop influence to the West Coast venue.
Jay-Z, 56, stated in a press release that the moment represents a culmination of his career. He described the period from his debut album "Reasonable Doubt" to this stage as a journey spanning three decades of music and culture. He called the opportunity a dream come true for the world's biggest stage.
This is the first time the rapper will perform at the halftime show in any capacity. He has previously served as a key decision-maker for the event through his production company, Roc Nation. Roc Nation partnered with the NFL in 2019 to produce the halftime show. Since then, the 89-time Grammy nominee has selected the performers for the event.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell noted that the collaboration has been in the works for several years. Goodell said he had one specific request when he first agreed to work with Roc Nation: that Jay-Z eventually take the stage himself. He expressed excitement for fans worldwide to witness the artist's creativity and cultural impact.
The performance coincides with the 30th anniversary of Jay-Z's debut studio album, "Reasonable Doubt," and the 25th anniversary of "Blueprint." The artist is currently on the JAŸ-Z30 Tour to celebrate these milestones. The tour has kept him in the public eye leading up to the February date.
Special guests have not been announced for the show. However, the NFL has a history of incorporating surprises into these performances. Beyoncé, Jay-Z's partner, is a notable potential candidate. She previously headlined the 2013 halftime show and performed with Coldplay and Bruno Mars in 2016. She also sang the national anthem at Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2001 and performed at halftime in Houston on Christmas Day 2024.
Kendrick Lamar was the last rapper to headline the halftime show, performing two years ago with guest SZA. Other rappers to perform at the Super Bowl this decade include Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and Lil Jon. Bad Bunny served as the halftime performer at the most recent Super Bowl. The game typically draws the highest television audience of the year, making the halftime set the most-watched musical performance of the season.
