Schiaparelli will open its first standalone United States boutique at South Coast Plaza in December. The location will be situated on Level 2 within the Nordstrom Wing. The Parisian fashion house is recognized for surrealist haute couture and handbags.
The brand traces its origins to 1927, when Italian designer Elsa Schiaparelli founded it. She collaborated with artist Salvador Dalí to create apparel that blended fashion with art. Schiaparelli died in 1973, and Dalí died in 1989. American designer Daniel Roseberry currently serves as the creative director of the house.
The South Coast Plaza boutique will sell ready-to-wear apparel, leather goods, jewelry, and accessories. The ready-to-wear collection includes knits, pants, tops, and dresses. The store will also feature the brand’s avant-garde Face Bag handbag. This item has three-dimensional eyes, lips, and nose, with prices starting at approximately $6,500.
Celebrities have worn Schiaparelli to major events. Lady Gaga wore a custom black and red dress to President Joe Biden’s 2021 inauguration. Ariana Grande has worn the brand’s gowns to the Oscars and Met Gala.
A separate retail opening occurred in San Clemente on Monday, November 2, with the debut of Sun Day Red. This golf apparel and footwear brand was co-created by Tiger Woods and TaylorMade Golf. The store occupies the former headquarters of Stance at 197 Avenida La Pata.
Sun Day Red is a two-year-old label designed and developed in Orange County, Woods’ native area. The name references Woods’ habit of wearing red shirts on Sunday tournament days. Woods was born in Cypress and played full rounds of golf by age two. He turned professional in 1996 and won the Masters in 1997.
Brad Blankinship, president of Sun Day Red, said the company wanted its headquarters in the community that shaped the brand. He noted the location is close to apparel talent in South Orange County and golf talent in Carlsbad. The store features dark blue spaces, warm leather chairs, and racks of clothing, shoes, and hats. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Also in retail news, Big 5 is closing its 9,000-square-foot store at Rancho Santa Margarita Town Center. The location at 30682 Santa Margarita Parkway is next to Ulta Beauty. The company was taken private last year by Worldwide Golf and Capitol Hill Group. Shoppers reported markdown sales are already underway, though no specific closing date was provided.
