A 32-year-old woman died late Saturday night after being struck by a Los Angeles Police Department patrol car in the Valley Glen neighborhood.

The collision occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Woodman Avenue and Bessemer Street. Los Angeles Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the woman dead there. No officers in the vehicle were injured.

LAPD Lt. Elpidio Orozco stated that the car belonged to the North Hollywood Division. It was traveling to the Van Nuys Division to provide backup for an emergency call. ABC7 reported that the patrol unit was heading to a Halloween house party on Weddington Street in Sherman Oaks. Police had received a report of shots fired and found a crowd of roughly 300 people at the location.

The station reported that the patrol car had its emergency lights and siren active at the time of the impact. KTLA cited an LAPD spokesperson who said the woman was standing outside a marked crosswalk when she was hit. The crowd at the party was dispersed without reported injuries.

The LAPD Multidisciplinary Collision Investigation Team is leading the inquiry into the crash. Orozco noted that the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner will release the victim's name once her family is notified.
