Buyers across Montana faced difficulties purchasing tickets for the annual Montana Millionaire lottery after a system failure occurred on Sunday morning. The error began shortly after sales started at 5:30 a.m., causing immediate disruptions for players attempting to use self-service terminals at local businesses.

The Montana State Lottery first acknowledged the problem on social media at 5:59 a.m., less than 30 minutes after the game launched. By 7:56 a.m., officials confirmed that technical issues were still preventing normal sales operations. The delay affects a limited annual game that offers prizes ranging from $100 to a top award of $1 million.

In a written update, the lottery stated that its team was actively working to resolve the technical issues. The organization apologized for the inconvenience and asked players for patience while they worked to restore full service as quickly as possible. The message emphasized the commitment to fixing the system that allows customers to buy tickets at convenience stores, bars, and grocery stores.

The malfunction does not change the schedule for the upcoming drawings. The quarter-million-dollar drawing is set for November 30. A $20,000 second chance drawing and the grand prize drawing will both take place on December 28. Players must purchase their tickets by December 27 to be eligible for any of the annual prizes.

Sales for Montana Millionaire are conducted exclusively through self-service terminals located in retail locations across the state. The annual game is a limited offering that runs for a specific period each year. The technical issues on Sunday represent the first major disruption reported since the sales window opened for this year's cycle.
