Incumbent U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan is spending the final day before the November 3 election in a tight contest with Democrat Mary Peltola. The race has drawn national attention after a New York Times report revealed that Peltola’s campaign recruited a decoy candidate named Daniel J. Sullivan, Jr. The candidate shares the first and last name of the sitting senator.

The discovery triggered separate investigations by the FBI and the State of Alaska. Authorities are examining whether the Democrats engaged in criminal activity to confuse voters. Sullivan is responding to the developing legal situation with a dense schedule of campaign events across Southcentral Alaska.

Sullivan’s day began on November 2 on Northern Lights Boulevard in Anchorage. He held a sign-waving event with Rep. Nick Begich. The pair is scheduled to hold a rally at Ginder’s Restaurant in Kenai at 12:30 p.m. They will next appear at Odd Man Rush in Eagle River at 4:15 p.m.

Sullivan and Begich will close the day with a rally at Everett’s Restaurant in Wasilla at 6 p.m. On election day, the team will return to the corner of Seward Highway and Northern Lights at 8 a.m. Sullivan will cast his ballot at the Alaska Zoo polling place at 10:30 a.m.

Voters have until 8 p.m. on November 3 to cast ballots. Sullivan and Begich will host an election night watch party to monitor the results as they are tallied.
