Habitat for Humanity of Island County will use a $25,000 grant from Peoples Bank to purchase a new construction truck. The vehicle is intended to expand the organization's capacity to serve homeowners and families across Whidbey and Camano Islands. The funds will go directly toward the acquisition of the vehicle, which is described as new and reliable.
The Impact Grant program began in 2017. It was designed to fund specific projects that create a lasting, positive impact in local communities. Habitat for Humanity of Island County was selected as the recipient for the 2026 cycle. The selection follows a review of applicants by the bank's leadership team.
Orin Kolaitis, Chief Executive Officer of Habitat for Humanity of Island County, stated that the grant represents an investment in the organization's ability to serve local families. He noted that the vehicle will strengthen home repair and construction programs. The truck will allow staff to efficiently reach homeowners across the islands. It will also help restore operations at the Habitat Store. Kolaitis said the grant helps preserve affordable housing and supports future homeowners.
Lisa Hefter, Chief Operating Officer at Peoples Bank, described the recipient as demonstrating a practical and lasting solution. She highlighted the organization's track record of helping residents maintain safe, affordable housing. Hefter said the bank is proud to support an investment that will strengthen the organization's ability to serve the community for years to come.
Habitat's Repair Specialist will use the truck daily. The vehicle will transport tools, equipment, and building materials for affordable home repair and construction projects throughout Island County. The purchase is part of the annual Impact Grant program, which targets specific uses with long-term community benefits.
Peoples Bank is also running a separate voting campaign for its $10,000 Peoples Choice Grant. Nine additional applicants have been selected for this award. Community members can vote online at www.peoplesbank-wa.com/vote. The voting deadline was midnight on October 23. The bank, headquartered in Bellingham, Washington, holds $2.4 billion in assets and operates 23 locations throughout the state.
