Pocatello recorded the steepest weekly decrease in fuel prices across Idaho this week. The average cost at local pumps dropped by 22 cents, bringing the price to $4.61 per gallon. This specific drop marks the largest single-week decline observed in the state during the current reporting period.

Statewide data from AAA shows that the average price per gallon fell by 13 cents across Idaho. Despite this recent reduction, consumers still pay $1.27 more per gallon than they did at this time last year. Prices remain 33 cents lower than they were one month ago. Matthew Conde, the public affairs director for AAA Idaho, pointed out that the crude market faces intense pressure. He noted that conflict and uncertainty are driving higher prices for a product that powers the global economy. Conde stated that while gas prices are falling now, the climbing cost of crude remains impossible to ignore.

The price drop in Pocatello contrasts with other major cities in the state. Boise and Twin Falls both recorded an average price of $4.71 per gallon. Rexburg saw the highest average cost at $4.78. The most affordable option in the state remained in Coeur d’Alene, where the average price stood at $4.37. Lewiston followed at $4.40, while Franklin and Idaho Falls both averaged $4.63.

Political factors continue to influence these costs. President Trump is currently considering military action against Iran. Analysts suggest that the outcome of the upcoming midterms could determine if the war ends. A resolution to both the Iran and Russia-Ukraine conflicts would likely cause a massive drop in global energy costs. The strategic oil reserve will need to be refilled once stability returns to the market.
