ESPN football analyst Rex Ryan declared on national television that Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty is the worst draft pick in the last twenty years. The former NFL head coach made the remarks while reviewing game footage of the Raiders, asserting that the player's performance does not match his status as a top-five selection in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Ryan specifically criticized Jeanty’s efficiency, stating that he averages 3.1 yards per carry. The analyst described the running back as "soft as Charmin," referencing the toilet paper brand to emphasize his view of the player's physical play. When asked by a co-host if he would confront Jeanty personally, Ryan confirmed he would walk up to the player and tell him directly that he is horrible.

Jeanty was selected by the Raiders with the sixth overall pick, making him the highest drafted player in Boise State history. The selection marked a departure for the program, which is historically known for producing quarterbacks rather than skill position players in the top ten. His NFL career follows his time as a standout at Boise State, where he set program records before entering the draft.

The criticism comes as the Raiders continue to manage their backfield rotation. In the most recent game, Jeanty carried the ball twice for nine total yards. In contrast, the team's backup running back handled the ball 25 times. The disparity in usage resulted in fewer rushing yards for Jeanty compared to his backup, a trend Ryan used to support his assessment of the starter's value.

Boise State fans have reacted to the comments, with some defending Jeanty's college accolades and others agreeing that the transition to the professional level has been difficult. The program remains focused on its legacy, as former quarterback and current New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore recently returned to Boise for the unveiling of a statue honoring his record-setting career.

The Raiders are scheduled to play their next game this coming week. Jeanty is expected to remain in the starting lineup despite the public criticism from Ryan. The team has not issued a formal response to the comments, and the analyst will continue to provide color analysis for upcoming broadcasts.
