The CIF Southern Section and L.A. City Section playoffs commence this week, following the conclusion of the regular season for Southern California high school football.

Inglewood holds the No. 1 spot in the Daily Breeze Top 10 rankings. The Sentinels finished the regular season with a 9-1 record and captured the Bay League title. They went undefeated in league play this season, improving upon their third-place finish in 2025. Inglewood is 32-2 across the Bay, Ocean, and Pioneer leagues since 2019. The team holds the No. 12 ranking in the CIF-SS system and leads the South Bay region. Their first postseason game is against Huntington Beach on Friday in CIF-SS Division 2.

Palos Verdes sits at No. 2 with a 9-1 record. The Sea Kings closed the regular season with a 45-0 victory over Leuzinger. They advanced to the Division 3 final in 2025 but play in Division 2 this year. Palos Verdes faces Serra in a rematch on Friday.

Serra is ranked No. 3 despite a 5-5 record. The Cavaliers finished third in the Mission League after missing the playoffs last year. Derrick Coleman Jr. rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown in their 20-13 win over Notre Dame. Serra plays at Palos Verdes on Friday.

Carson holds the No. 4 spot with a 9-1 record. Chris Fields III passed for three touchdowns and rushed for two in a 45-42 nonleague win over Mary Star. The Colts take a week off before defending their L.A. City Section Open Division title. Their first playoff game is against Palisades on Nov. 13.

Mary Star is ranked No. 5 with a 9-1 record. The Stars lost 45-42 to Carson, marking their first defeat of the season. They hold the top seed in CIF-SS Division 5 and have a first-round bye. Mary Star plays a team to be determined on Nov. 13.

Torrance is No. 6 with a 7-3 record. The Tartars beat North Torrance 27-7 to finish second in the Pioneer League. Gibson Turner threw two touchdown passes, while Sonny Gomez and Vaughn Reinert each scored on the ground. Torrance faces Agoura on Friday in CIF-SS Division 5.

Mira Costa is No. 7 with a 3-7 record. The Mustangs beat Redondo Union for the ninth straight year but missed the CIF-SS playoffs. Redondo Union is No. 8 with a 5-5 record and lost three straight games to finish the season. San Pedro is No. 9 with a 7-2 record. Seth Solorio threw four touchdowns in a 62-13 win over Narbonne. San Pedro holds the No. 2 seed in the L.A. City Open Division and plays Dorsey on Nov. 13. Lawndale is No. 10 with a 9-1 record. The Cardinals won the Ocean League and hold the top seed in CIF-SS Division 9. They face Ocean View on Friday.
