Portland State University entered the game at the Tilson Stadium in Hillsboro, Oregon, on Sunday, November 1, aiming to snap a two-game losing streak with three weeks remaining in the regular season. It marked the program's first Halloween matchup since 2015.
The Vikings trailed 24-7 at the half after a single first-half touchdown. Gabe Downing threw a pass that was tipped by an Idaho defender, but Terence Loville secured the catch in the back of the endzone for the game's only early score for PSU. Idaho extended their advantage to 31-7 late in the third quarter before Portland State managed to trim the deficit.
Marcellous Ryan intercepted a pass from Joshua Wood at the PSU eight-yard line in the third quarter. The team failed to convert that possession into a substantial scoring drive, though they did secure a final score in the closing minute.
Loville caught another quick pass for his second touchdown of the night, bringing the final tally to 38-14 in favor of the Vandals. The result extends Idaho's winning streak to three consecutive games.
Before the kickoff, the squad observed a moment of silence for June Jones, a Portland native who passed away on Thursday at age 73. Jones played two seasons for the Vikings starting in 1975 before pursuing a career in playing and coaching.
Portland State will travel to play Montana next Saturday. The team returns home on November 13 to face Southern Utah to conclude their home schedule.
