The Oregon Ducks defeated the Northwestern Wildcats 34-26 on Saturday afternoon, a result that capped a difficult season defined by injuries and personnel changes. The team had already lost starting quarterback Dante Moore for the season in his fourth game. Now, they lost two more key players during this contest.

Both starting running backs, Jordon Davison and Dierre Hill, exited the game in the first half and did not return for the second half. Davison suffered a leg injury on an awkward tackle in the second quarter. He returned to the sideline on crutches and in street clothes. The absence of their primary backs forced true freshman Brandon Smith and redshirt freshman Da’Jaun Riggs to handle the workload. Smith finished the game with 82 rushing yards, 32 receiving yards, and one touchdown. Receiver Dakorian Moore also left the game late in the fourth quarter, though details of his injury have not yet been reported.

The offense struggled early, scoring only field goals in the first half. A shift occurred when Jamari Johnson caught a touchdown pass midway through the third quarter to cut the deficit to 23-20. From that point until the end of the game, Oregon scored 28 points and recorded 360 total offensive yards. The crowd at Autzen Stadium reacted strongly to the offensive revival, creating an atmosphere that coaches noted energized the defense as well.

Quarterback Dylan Raiola finished with 336 passing yards, three touchdown passes, and no interceptions. He threw for 120 yards in the first half alone. While his start was slow, his performance in the second half showed improvement. He is expected to compete for the starting position in 2027, even if he is not guaranteed the job.

Head coach Dan Lanning, in his fifth year at the position, showed visible emotion after Dakorian Moore’s 75-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter. His exuberant celebration earned the team a sideline warning from officials. The victory alleviated pressure on Lanning, who has faced scrutiny since taking the job in 2021. The win came just before a scheduled matchup against Ohio State in Columbus.

Offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer, who is no longer with the program, was absent for the game. His previous game was considered the best of the season for the offense, but he was not present to see this performance. The coaching staff had retained him until Week 9. Critics may point to that timeline, but the immediate focus has shifted to the players on the field who adapted to the new circumstances.
