Bethesda Game Studios has a long history of releasing open-world role-playing games, and its next major entry is finally getting a name. The studio officially unveiled the subtitle for The Elder Scrolls 6 during a celebration of its 40th anniversary on Tuesday.

Todd Howard, the franchise director, shared a video message confirming the title as Sentinel. This announcement serves as the direct sequel to Skyrim, which launched in 2011 and remains the most played game in the series' history. The reveal coincided with the release of the game's new logo.

The setting for Sentinel is the city of Sentinel within the Hammerfell province on the continent of Tamriel. Geographically, Hammerfell sits west of Cyrodiil, the location for the 2006 title Oblivion, and southwest of the Skyrim region. This placement continues the franchise's tradition of exploring distinct areas of its fictional world.

Development of The Elder Scrolls 6 began in 2018 when it was first shown at E3. The project entered active production in 2023, following the release of Starfield. Howard previously stated in 2021 that the game could arrive 15 to 17 years after Skyrim, suggesting fans may wait several more years before playing.

The announcement arrives as other major titles prepare for their next phases. Grand Theft Auto VI digital pre-loading starts on Nov. 10, requiring up to 212 GB of storage space. Physical code-in-box versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S become available from retailers on Nov. 12. Rockstar Games will also post a free digital map of Leonida on Nov. 29.

In the life simulation genre, HoYoverse plans to launch Petit Planet on Dec. 4. The game allows players to act as Planet Tenders exploring the Starsea. It will support cross-platform play on PC, iOS, and Android, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version scheduled for 2027.

The Borderlands franchise recently surpassed 100 million units sold. Gearbox is currently adding content to Borderlands 4, which released in September 2025. A community fundraising event called The Hunt begins Nov. 6, with 2K Foundations and Gearbox matching donations up to the previous record of $118,995.80.
