A driver died Tuesday night after their pickup truck overturned and burned in a ditch near the intersection of State Route 160 and U.S. Highway 95. The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol confirmed the death at the scene in Nye County.
Investigators stated the unidentified driver was traveling northbound in the right lane of State Route 160 at approximately 8:09 p.m. on October 27. The vehicle approached the intersection with U.S. 95, but the driver did not stop at the posted stop sign. The truck continued through the junction and left the roadway, heading into the desert terrain.
Upon striking a ditch, the front of the pickup truck impacted the ground, causing the vehicle to flip and ignite. The driver sustained injuries in the crash and died before receiving further medical treatment. Authorities have not yet released the driver's name.
This incident contributes to a growing list of fatalities in the region. The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Southern Command, which oversees the area around Las Vegas, has investigated 57 deadly crashes since the start of the year. These collisions have resulted in a total of 65 deaths in that sector.
Statewide data on traffic safety is maintained by the Nevada Zero Fatalities project. Officials track these figures to monitor trends in vehicular accidents across the state.
